Breakfast Bend: General information: East of island 9, stretching from the north to the south, a very long coral reef slopes gently from a depth of 5 to ten meters, falling to a sand bottom at 25 to 30 meters. The main features is hard corals such as pore corals, staghorn coral, and brain coral, while soft coral is hard to find. There are also sea whips in the north. Current: Moderate. The current regularly splits into two streams, one which runs north and the other south. Marine life: Leopard sharks are common and sometimes two or three of these can be seen on the same dive. Seeing whitetip reef sharks and Napoleon wrasse is possible here. Kuhl’s stingrays, garden eels, groupers and triggerfish, as well as different sorts of gobies on the sand are a common sight.
This site also is a home to schools of soldierfish, and bluefin trevally, as well as some camouflage experts such as octopuses and ghost pipefish. Furthermore, cometfish can also sometimes be seen in rock crevice. On the northern side, large swarms of friendly batfish and yellowtail barracuda can always be found swimming around.
This dive site has many interesting species and is not deep. It is suitable for beginner divers who wish to enjoy an easy going reef dive. This dive is a good option for the second or third dive of the day. Also, if the current is running, drift diving is enjoyable.
